Walt Rush
Gold and Silver Jewelry
I hand-fabricate, carve waxes, cast in straw and seagrass, and cast in water. I create organic and nature-related jewelry to match my coastal environment.

Internationally known award-winning jeweler Walt Rush was born in San Francisco and at a young age was transplanted kicking and screaming to Ohio.
Surrounded by a fertile environment of creativity, my father was an architect and my mother a painter. So, I came by my talent naturally. In my early years in school I excelled in art, drafting, metal and wood shop, as well as welding. I am a self-taught Gold/Silversmith with over 50 years’ experience in creating jewelry. I returned to the California Coast to create, and design works of art in jewelry and precious metal sculptures.
I design most of my jewelry with a general creation in mind. However, as I am creating a particular piece, my surroundings, metals, and stones that I am working with will influence me to the result. In my wax designs I see something in my mind and cut everything else away. What I enjoy doing most is my water cast and straw cast designs because I can’t influence what is created from pouring or dripping the molten metal into the water or straw. I create from the design that takes shape when the metal hardens. I work with all types of stones, be it natural specimens, faceted, or a variety of cabochons.
I believe jewelry should be an attribute to the human body as a painting is to a room or a sculpture is to that special place in a home, building, or yard. My works-of-art in jewelry or treasured precious metal sculptures are for the discerning in taste.
My work has appeared in the Mendocino Arts Magazine, and I was personally photographed and interviewed for one of their magazine artist spotlights.
Currently, I am a member of the Gualala Arts Center & The North Coast Artists Guild. My creative designs are on display at the Discovery Gallery, the Artists’ Collective Gallery in Elk, and the Prentice Gallery in Mendocino,
