Barbara Poole
Painting, printmaking (etching), and small books
My paintings and etchings are a response to what I see and think. Often they are narrative and realistic, and just as often I make work that is more directed by the process.

Over the years I’ve been an artist the way I make art has changed from the documentation of my surroundings to being more focussed on process and how can I create what I want to say. Because I am a painter, and now a printmaker as well, I have many options when I begin a new piece. It is rewarding to have developed my skills well enough to move between medias in order to achieve different results. My latest focus is how to express a feeling. Usually I draw what I am thinking about, which is often influenced by interactions between family and friends. Then I think what to do with that information It often takes a long time to put it together, and during the development stage I make art that keeps me busy and inadvertently may lead me to where I am going.
