Marisa Macklin
Acrylic on canvas
I am a contemporary figurative painter whose subject matter is centralized around the human figure, with an added compulsion to paint fabric.
My most recent series, "Fashion, Fruit, and Fowl," explores the vibrant interplay between people posing with fruit or chickens, set against either minimal or immersive scenes, exemplifying the energy of momentary stillness.

Marisa Candace Rheem Macklin is a contemporary figurative painter who works out of her art studio in Northern California. She is currently a member of the North Coast Artist Guild. Marisa has received nine awards for her paintings, has had her artwork displayed in 21 juried group shows, a few public collections, four solo shows, and two museum shows, as well as published in 6 magazines.
In November 2019, Marisa debuted her first solo exhibition, “Impermanent Fascination,” premiering at Jackknife Gallery. Her second solo exhibition in 2020, “Momentary Captivation,” was displayed at the International Art Museum of America in San Francisco. Two of her paintings were accepted into the de Young Museum for a juried group show titled, “de Young Open,” from October 2020 to January 2021. In 2021 she exhibited in a juried group show at the San Francisco Women Artists Gallery (SFWAG) titled, “Slice of Life,” and had another solo show titled, “Loosey Goosey,” at Jackknife Gallery. That same year Marisa sold work in the Arts for Oakland Kids quarterly auction highlighting artist Mel Ramos, as well as, had her fourth solo exhibition in Fort Ross, CA.
Marisa didn’t paint much all of 2023 because she got married and moved from Oakland, CA to a 40 acre off-grid homestead in Cazadero, CA where she spent the year learning how to live off the land and renovating an out building into an art studio. In 2024, Marisa began working on her new series, “Fashion, Fruit, and Fowl” and was published in CanvasRebel Magazine in the February and December issues. Thus far in 2025, her work has been published in University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Journal of Arts and Sciences, as well as Create! Magazine and Mark Maker's Quarterly Magazine. In February, Marisa exhibited at the LA Art Show with Teravarna Gallery, and in April was in two juried group shows at the San Francisco Womens Artist Gallery and at the Gualala Arts Center (in which her piece, "Mother Hen," won First Place in the People's Choice Awards).
