The Clearing — Sea Ranch, California

I paint in acrylics and inks. Color is how I think — it carries what I'm reaching for before I have words for it.

The work begins in the body. I don't plan. I discover what the painting is by making it. Sometimes the whole body is in it — wide, gestural, bold. Sometimes the hand is close and the world is held small. The work dictates scale, not habit.

What I'm trying to catch is a flash — the moment something ordinary suddenly radiates. A face. A tree in a certain light. The space between two people. The world being unmistakably, undeniably here. It's always the same thing: presence itself.

My paintings are abstract with traces of the real. A viewer can sense the source — feel that something was present during the making — without being handed a legible image. The world is transformed, not erased. Color is the primary language. It generates feeling directly, before any image is read.

I work from the Northern California coast, where the natural world is not scenery but event — alive, specifically, right now, in this light. The paintings reach for that same quality: warm, present, full.

The work is always becoming.
