Dennis Pedersen is a ceramic artist who explores the evocative interplay of clay and light. Working in both stoneware and porcelain, he uses the wheel as a starting point for symmetrical form before moving into a process of manual alteration. Through stretching, carving, and intentional distortion, he breaks the perfection of the wheel to reveal a more organic, human character within the material.

Pedersen’s practice is influenced by the contrasting ways his chosen mediums respond to illumination. His porcelain pieces embrace translucency, while his stoneware works utilize shadow to reveal architectural depth. By incorporating raw clay bodies and selecting glazes specifically to accentuate the natural beauty of the material, he highlights the grit and elegance of the earth itself. Informed by a career-long structural connection to the land, his work captures the moment where calculated geometry meets the spontaneous, atmospheric energy of the maker’s touch.
