Sher Novak

Jewelry, Metal, Mixed Media
I am a jewelry and metal artist who often combines metal smithing techniques with fiber art practices to make mixed media art.

“ I’m inspired by the natural world, and influenced by nature’s structural relationships: rhythm, line, repetition, gradation, proportion, pattern, and geometry.”

Sher Novak makes objects and jewelry that express her appreciation of form and texture. She especially loves to use the foldforming technique; a method of folding, hammering, and unfolding flat sheet metal to transform it into three dimensions. The resulting foldforms can vary from simple to very intricate shapes. They show the marks of both the folds and of the hammers she uses.

Sher loves to experiment with materials, often combining traditional metalsmithing techniques with sewing, wrapping, weaving, and knotting to make unique mixed media jewelry and sculpture.

After a career as a patternmaker in the fashion industry, Sher became a student at The California College of the Arts. She earned a BFA degree in Jewelry/MetalArts in 2015.
