Modernist functional ceramics

DunnSDT2024eleven.jpg

I first fell in love with clay in high school where I learned to throw on a kick wheel. My fascination with clay then continued in art school where I studied ceramic sculpture and the science of formulating glazes. After graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute, I worked in several other mediums, but kept coming back to ceramics, studying with several excellent potters and ceramic sculptors. My current line of work is painted ceramic stoneware with modernist motifs and intense color. I work to create visually exciting, energetic, and rhythmic designs on functional objects with classic mid century modernist forms. All vessels are thrown on the wheel. Each piece I see as a small painting. Each is unique. I keep exploring forms and color combinations. This keeps my artistic journey with clay challenging and exciting.
