I am a classically trained painter and sculptor. My painting includes landscapes, still lives and figurative works completed in oil, pastel, charcoal, watercolor and mixed media while my sculpture is primarily figurative and executed in terra cotta, stone and bronze.
I graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University with a concentration in Humanities and International Affairs and, after studying for a number of years at the Art Students League of New York, obtained an MFA degree from the Graduate School of Figurative Art at the New York Academy of Art. In addition to formal academic programs, I have studied with a wide range of practicing artists on an individual and group basis including (most notably) Ted Seth Jacobs, Frank Mason, Robert Maione, David Lefel, Robert Beverley Hale, Daniel Greene, Ron Scherr and Martine Vaugel.
I moved to Sea Ranch full time in 2018 after spending 13 years in rural Marin County. I spend summers painting and sculpting in the Loire Valley, France where I have maintained a home and studio since 1991 in a small village with a significant international artist population. I have always had a strong orientation toward international cultures and art and, since graduating from college, have lived overseas in Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and France for over 20 years.
I draw much of my inspiration from nature and enjoy completing work both outdoors and in my studio. While entirely representational in its subject matter, I try to evoke a sense of beauty and timelessness in my work that takes the viewer beyond visual reality into an emotional, spiritual and contemplative space.
